ghostmarket is the solo project of Bret Van Horn, a veteran of the Portland music scene since the early '90s. Weaving together the moody, cinematic instrumentals of post rock, the heavily-effected, cavernous guitars of shoegaze, the airy, layered vocals of dream pop, and elements of electronic music and krautrock, ghostmarket channels artists like The Notwist, M83, My Bloody Valentine, and Mogwai.
Their 2002 debut LP, Wastelands, was a cathartic instrumental contemplation on burning down and and rebuilding. Including guest appearances from friends and family, Heavy Blog is Heavy described Wastelands as, "a consistently enjoyable journey that goes to several unexpected places."
ghostmarket will be releasing a two-song EP in early 2025, titled New Galaxies, which sees them venturing further into shoegaze and dream pop territories.
